The Lanes
Small passages. Independent discoveries. Brighton’s historic heart.
Explore The Lanes
Why wander here?
Between North Street, East Street and Ship Street, The Lanes brings together narrow alleyways, tucked-away squares, jewellers, boutiques, cafés and restaurants.
Parts date to the late 16th century, when Brighton was the fishing town of Brighthelmstone. Today, the old street pattern makes exploring on foot part of the pleasure.
The newer Hannington’s Lane opened in 2019, adding independent shopping, food and murals to the area.
The Royal Pavilion and Palace Pier are nearby. The background is an original festive Brighton composite, rather than a photograph of a particular street.
