SHS MOBILE TEST / RESEARCH & PLANNING ONLY

An app-looking button for the online SHS portal

The simplest version is a phone home-screen shortcut. The better long-term experience is a Progressive Web App (PWA), which can use a branded icon and launch in a standalone window. Both link to the online portal; neither needs an App Store listing.

iPhone / iPad

  1. Open the final SHS portal URL in Safari.
  2. Tap Share, then Add to Home Screen (or use Safari's menu to find the option).
  3. Choose the displayed name and tap Add. The icon opens the portal.

Android

  1. Open the portal in Chrome.
  2. Use the browser menu and choose Install app or Add to Home screen, as available.
  3. Confirm to create the home-screen icon.

For a polished installable PWA

  1. Host the actual portal at a stable HTTPS URL.
  2. Provide a web app manifest with name, short_name, start_url, scope, display: standalone, theme_color, background_color, and appropriate 192px and 512px icon assets.
  3. Reference the manifest in the portal's HTML and supply an Apple touch icon for iOS.
  4. Consider a service worker for offline or cache behaviour, with careful update handling. A service worker is not required merely to create a home-screen shortcut.
  5. Test install behaviour on real iPhone and Android devices, including the entry splash, navigation and opening external links.

Important: This page is only a guide. It does not add a manifest, change the portal, publish an app, or install anything on visitors' phones. Use the final SHS portal URL rather than the OutMaps test address before public distribution.
