SWITZERLAND · INITIAL MARKET REVIEW · 17 OCTOBER 2026
A market, with a clear need
to stand apart.
The FSO’s 2024 language data reports that 23% of people aged 25+ learn or improve languages. This indicates participation, not the number willing to pay Jillian or demand in a specific canton.
Migros already combines classroom, private and online learning across 33 languages. Alpadia offers live one-to-one French and German with digital activities. A generic online school would compete with established providers.
Proposed position: personal conversation coaching with a consistent teacher, practical everyday or workplace goals, and printable practice between lessons. This is a recommendation to test, not a proven local gap.
Competitor price reference: the Migros German private-online listing checked offers 13 × 50-minute lessons for CHF 1,300 excluding materials: CHF 100 per lesson, equivalent to CHF 120 per 60 minutes. This is one package, not a Swiss market average or a recommended Jillian price.
Start small: confirm Jillian’s canton, languages, qualifications, learner age group and capacity; interview 8–12 target learners; invite enquiries for one specific course; run a small paid pilot before investing in a full learning platform. Track enquiry-to-paid conversion, attendance, repeat bookings and preparation time.
Commercial checks: calculate preparation, live teaching, marking, administration and acquisition costs before setting CHF fees. Paper-based learning should include teacher feedback if sold as a supported course. Printed postal delivery, student accounts, payment processing and a built-in video service are not included in this demonstration.
Before launch: confirm school identity and contact details, fees, cancellations, privacy information and course descriptions. Do not claim accreditation or immigration / exam eligibility unless Jillian can substantiate it.
